Anyway continuing on... I thought all of this was bullshit, until I got to college and was first given an academic article to read and I was like what the fuck. Sorry for thinking that since it was my first semester that you would go EASY ON ME!!! The classes I took expected us to shape up or ship ourselves out cause that shit we should have learned in high school, which I think is slightly crazy because when I was in high school they got rid of required book reading, so the last time I read a book for school was in 7th grade. I love the public education system!!!

Anyway back to my reading journey. Since it stopped being required to read, in school... I didn't really read much, and the amount I had to read for college was a huge adjustment even though I was a huge book worm growing up. I didn't really have time to miss it, since life got in the way and video games and social media and everything else, but I got tired of everything else. Last summer I spent most of it in New York alone, occasionally visiting my sibling, but just doing school work was so boring. I needed other ways to fill my time so I decided to go to the book store. When I walked in I saw their pride collection front and center since it was June, but in particular I saw Ace by Angela Chen. I had never seen a book on asexuality before so I immediately grabbed it, and I fell in love with Non-Fiction for the first time.

Looking back on those influencers with their highlighters and such, I thought to mark a book in such a way was defilement. Now I finally understand that just like people you have to show a book how much you love it. It isn't enought to just read it, books are meant to be experienced like a movie or a concert. You must highlight it's strengths, question its wording, and argue with it points and only then have you truly read a book.

Yesterday I started reading Against the Written Word by Ian F. Svenonius and I've been practicing and really enjoying the experience of this book.
