1. Please introduce yourself.
hi!!! i'm lyer! i'm currently in college studying music and ASL
2. How long have you been making websites?
a lil over a year, my sites 1st birthday was back in august!
3. And what got you into the hobby?
im not really sure... i think i saw someone talking about neocities on a youtube video and decided that it looked fun and then started my own
4. What kind of website are you most interested in?
ummm... personal ones? idk i like things that look cool and have passion and personality behind them
5. What's your workflow? Do you plan your websites out thoroughly or do you come up with the design as you go along?
plan? what plan?? people plan things out???
6. Please link to your biggest inspirations.

7. What's your favourite part about making websites?
i think my favorite part is just the process of what i'm making turn into what i want it to become. once one of my music professors described watching improv music as watching michelangelo carve david, you might not see the full creation, you might not even be seeing the final draft, but the performance itself is in its creation, in the chunks of stone that fall to the ground, the slow reveal of the outline. to me that's my favorite part, slowly adding lines and lines of code, refreshing the page, and seeing whats in my head appear on the screen slowly.
8. And the thing you struggle with the most?
there aren't things that i don't struggle with, but i guess html is the easiest, and css is the enemy
9. Do you keep the same layout on all of your pages? Or do you use different ones?
all shrines have their own layout, my main pages have one layout, and my writing page has its own layout
10. How confident are you with CSS?
not at all.
11. Do you know how to correctly use <dl>?
hell no
12. What is your favourite HTML element?
img just because i have so many(i need to do something about that)
13. If you're making a new web page from scratch, what is the first thing you do?
copy a page layout and delete whatever is in the body
14. Do you know JavaScript?
hell no
15. How about PHP?

16. Does your website have a theme that you stick to?

17. Are you more focused on content or design?
a lil bit of both, both is good
18. Do you own a domain name? If not, would you ever want to?
i so eventually want to own lyer.online just like ribo.zone but i'm not going to pay for it atm, i am already making too many poor financial decisions.
19. What do you think of nostalgia-focused or "retro" websites?
cool until they are completely unreadable or seizure inducing
20. Is your HTML valid? Do you even check?
how would i even check that, it loads right? so its valid in my eyes
21. What are your opinion on buttons and banners?
LOVE
22. What do you think of button walls in particular?
LOVE, but specifically STAMPS!!!
23. If you started over again, would you make something similar or completely different?
different, not that i don't like mine now, but something like monsieurdoll where you layer a bunch of shit on top of each other
24. Are you envious of other people's websites?
only the cool concept ones with lots of content, but i'm not envious of the upkeep
25. What text editor do you use?
sublime text, but my lazy ass uses the neocities editor way to much
26. Why do you use that one?

27. Do you host your image files on your web server, or on another host?
i really need to because i'm running out of bandwidth on my free neocities account
28. This might not be relevant to you, but what's your opinion on the Neocities vs. Nekoweb debate?

29. How much server space would you estimate your main website takes up?
rn im at 80% of my 1gb, need to optimise soon...
30. Do you keep local backups of your files?
i try to but i forget to often and then don't
31. Do you prefer simple or highly visual websites?
highly visual (i like pictures)
32. Do you stick to certain colours? Do you do that on purpose, or is it your subconscious?
yes, green and porple and its on purpose, i like having a theme
33. Have you ever thought about quitting? Why?
nope, i forget i have a site tho sometimes. to me, hobbies come in waves, it depends on how long but they always come back
34. Do you have many webmaster friends, or is it a solitary hobby?
i have successfully converted one person to neocities from my irl friends, i have had no other luck since.
35. Do people in your real life know about your website?
only the one i converted, the others are wayyy to offline to comprehend
36. Do you update your website very often? How often is "very often"?
all my hobbies come in waves, but lately i've been very consitant(weekly)
37. And the overall design, do you change that much? Why or why not?
yes very drastically, check out my archive page! if you want to see the change, the only one i didn't save was my first version, which i think was sunflower themed???
38. Is your website more you-focused, hobby-focused, or outside world-focused?
me/hobby focused deff
39. Do you do web design professionally?
hell no.
40. If not, would you like to? And if you're comfortable answering, what do you do for work?
i wouldn't wish css on my worst enemy, and i'm a full time student and (non professional)musician
41. Do you communicate with people by email very much?
no, i have before... but no
42. Some people reject social media and use websites as a replacement. Do you keep social media outside of your website?
yes i try to, in my manifesto i talk about my social media addiction and how i severly limit my time on it, so i don't like to bring it into my site much(tumblr is the exception to this tho)
43. How about instant messengers? Do you use a mainstream one like Discord or Telegram? Or something like Matrix? Do you avoid them?
i have discord, and i've used signal, although i think my discord is bugged, it won't allow me to see friend requests and i've had problems in the past with it before
44. Do you listen to music while you work on websites? If so, what kinds of artists?
i listen to music too much, but when i'm coding i usually watch youtube instead, like markiplier, jacob geller, or dan and phil
45. Do you keep everything you make on one website, or do you have more than one?
i once started a second site, but i never actually got around to posting anything on it since i was so busy on my own site, so just one site for now.
46. On a similar note, do you keep to one topic on your site, or many?
the topic is me, so it's whatever i want, which is very inconsistant
47. Do you present your real self, or at least try? Or do you construct a persona on purpose?

48. Have you ever made a good friend thanks to your website?
no good friends, but i've met a lot of very cool people, especially because of HTML day meetups!(aug 2nd)
49. Are you happy with the way HTML and CSS currently work?
if it works it works¯\_(ツ)_/¯
50. What are practices that you think people should avoid?
having a bunch of links up for different pages on your site that don't go anywhere... if i get redirected to a 404 after trying to look at your shrines, i'll cry.
51. What about under-utilised practices, or things you think people should do more?
adding a "to top" button at the bottom of a really long page
52. Do you use a lot of semantic HTML? Or are you guilty of generic structure?
not to much semantic, i try for goldilocks juuuust right
53. Do you consider different browsers?
hell no, firefox or bust(anything but chrome really)
54. Speaking of, what's your preferred browser? Convince your readers why they should use it.
firefox, but idrc that much
55. And what OS are you on?
my laptop i code on is a macbook, i have a pc, but that thing hasn't been booted up in a while
56. Do you have a strong opinion on that, or do you just happen to use it?
just happens to work better than my old dell laptop
57. Are your websites mobile-friendly?
my main site layout is, but not all of them are

loud! turn that shit down it's not accessible

60. Do you have any web shrines? What do you like to see in that sort of page?
i love shrines! i currently have 3, the first one i made was for my wife shinsou hitoshi, the second was his dad aizawa shouta, and the third so far for dan and phil. a good mix of real and fake people
61. Are your websites "cliche", in your opinion?
no?? idk please don't tell me
62. What is your ideal website? Are you striving for that, or for something else?
my ideal is cool as shit, packed full of personality and interesting content you could get lost in, and i'm working on that
63. Are you an artist? Do you draw or design your own assets?
i have done art before, i don't have any on display on my site, but that might change...
64. What are your favourite resource sites?
32bit cafe always is full of good stuff as well as sadgrl.online
ribo.zone and eggramen have some good layouts for beginners
65. Is there a habit you just can't get away from no matter how hard you try?
i have nothing but bad habits
66. What's your biggest advice for a new webmaster?
if you know nothing then choose a layout and focus on the content you want to put up first, then you can figure out how to customize it annd make it uniquely yours
67. Do you keep all your styling in CSS? Or do you hard-code some?
if hard code means anything outside of html and css, then no i don't do that
68. What do you think of frameset layouts?
used one for a long time, nice but was not mobile friendly is the shortest, now i've changed out of it
69. How about table-based layouts?
never used one before but i have consitered it
70. Do you subscribe to the ideas of "one-column", "two-column" and "three-column" layouts? Do you use any of these?
i think they're useful but kinda boring in my opinion if that's the layout for the whole site, switch it up a bit!
71. Do you spend longer on the HTML or the CSS?
CSS IS THE ENEMY
72. Have you ever made a page with no CSS? It's useful for your thoughts.
no, i like being very decorative
73. Do you ever find yourself making layouts with nothing to put on them? Or do you only make layouts when the need arises?
nope! i hate doing that shit for my own site, why would i not put anything on it? then it's a waste for me personally, if i'm making it, im using it somewhere
74. Would you consider yourself a beginner? Or advanced? Somewhere in the middle?

75. Do you have a habit of looking at the source code of websites you visit?
yes, i'm trying to figure out how they did it
76. How did YOU learn how to make websites?
lots, and lots, of trial and error
77. Do you ever force elements to do things they're not supposed to?
opposite, i can't even force them into things they're suppost to do sometimes

fun! at times, a pain at others
79. When you're sizing stuff, what do you use first? Do you use px, em, %, or something else?
default to px for small things, em for large things
80. Do you have a favourite font?
monospace based ones, or pixely ones

i'd love to try! but i can't design it myself, they'd have to do that part for me to participate.

yeah! love looking at my following's following and others neighbors

no, but i check people i'm following on neocities. i'd love to be bookmarked!
84. What do you want people to be most impressed with when they see your website?
the amount of stamps content!

no, but i collect music!
86. How often and for how long are you online?
idk, i check my guestbook once a week when updating things and check email regularly
87. When it comes to your website, who is your target audience?
people who think cringe is cool and have similar interests to me

nope.

i use sublime text because it's free, i don't code outside of my site
90. Speaking of programs that help you make websites, what do you think of static site generators (SSGs)? Have you ever used one?
they're fine, but i don't care for them(just get a free layout)
91. Do you keep a hitcounter? Why or why not?
no because i think it would be to much like social media, i get to into the numbers game and it gets stressful

no, reddit has scared me away from forums

i haven't deleted everything, but i haven't deleted as much as i should've.

i probably be to lazy to delete it and just leave it

probably reveal more online, except location stuff

don't have an online bestie atm, but i'm always accepting appications
